Main Reasons for Not Losing Weight

Having a healthy low-calorie diet, along with exercise, usually results in weight loss for the average person. However, there are many underlying reasons that make weight loss difficult no matter how hard one tries.

Upon visiting with our Nurse Practitioner, we conduct adequate tests to find out whether or not an underlying problem is preventing weight loss. Only after the tests are conducted will the provider, along with the patient, determine the best management plan for losing weight.

Conditions that Prevent Weight Loss

Sex Hormones

Hormones are continually changing throughout one’s life. Sex hormones, specifically estrogen and testosterone, tend to change quite drastically as one gets older. This results in a slower metabolism and difficulties in losing weight. Correcting this hormone imbalance will not only help one lose weight more easily but can also positively impact other issues.

Thyroid Hormones

Thyroid hormones are critical in terms of weight loss. If the thyroid is imbalanced, it can result in unusual weight gain. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include weight gain, lack of energy, dry skin, weakness, cold body, and depression.

Candida

Candida is a fungus (yeast) affecting many people unknowingly. Major symptoms include intense cravings for sugar and carbohydrates, leading to weight gain. Managing Candida involves special diets to prevent recurrence.

Heavy Metal Overload

Heavy metal overload can hinder weight loss due to its negative effects on the body, including hormone imbalances. Identifying and eliminating harmful metals is crucial for effective weight management.

Food Allergies

Food allergies can cause weight gain, primarily through IgG allergies, which affect around 60% of the U.S. population. Symptoms include digestive issues, headaches, and food cravings, leading to weight gain and water retention.

Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue occurs due to prolonged stress, affecting cortisol production and leading to symptoms like low energy, mood swings, and weight gain. A multi-faceted approach is needed to normalize adrenal function and support weight loss.
